✨ SENSORY INTEGRATION ✨
Little Koko is all about nurturing child development through the senses and we love to explore a variety of ways this is possible in every day life.
Did you know that bouncing on a trampoline stimulates the entire sensory system, leading to an abundance of brain activity!
Trampolines provides children with vestibular stimulation, which controls the sense of movement and balance and holds a very important role in child development.
The vestibular system (located in our inner ear) influences nearly everything we do, being the unifying system in our brain that modifies and coordinates the sensory input from all of our other senses!
So jumping on a trampoline offers so many amazing benefits such as:
✨ proprioceptive input (joints & muscles)
✨ kinaesthetic awareness (navigation through space)
✨ body awareness (knowing & moving body parts)
✨ spacial awareness (where we are in space)
✨ visual motor skills (hand & eye coordination)
✨ core skills (balancing both sides of the body)
✨ gross motor skills (running, jumping, climbing)
✨ emotional regulation (calming & stress relief)
✨ exercise (health & strength)
When a brain receives lots of simultaneous messages from the senses it encourages sensory integration- this means it strengthens the brain to organise and integrate our bodies to respond appropriately to our environment.
This stuff is pure gold for building coping and emotional regulation skills!
It’s one of the best activities we can offer our children!
